Captain Andy Piland runs full-day Hatteras fishing charters from Oden’s Dock Marina aboard the Good Times. After decades on these waters, he knows no two days offshore are exactly alike, and that is still one of the things he enjoys most about fishing here.
Some days Captain Andy steers points the Good Times toward tuna, dolphinfish or wahoo. On other days, king mackerel, sharks or bottom fish provide the better opportunity. When the season and conditions line up, the crew may pursue marlin, sailfish or swordfish. Andy would rather explain what the ocean is offering than promise the same trip every day.
The goal isn’t to force every trip into the same mold.
It’s to make the most of the day you’re given.

Marlin and tuna may get most of the attention, but they are not all that Hatteras has to offer. Not every offshore boat offers bottom fishing. The Good Times does because amberjack, grouper, snapper, tilefish and other seasonal bottom species can turn into some of the most active and enjoyable fishing of the day. Bottom species also provide an excellent variety of tablefare.
